A brawl between two men who roll on the ground while a third one runs away on a donkey.

The final state, for the Petiet-Alexis edition. On the plate, given by Borderel, the letter of the menu has been erased and replaced by a second remark, a man's head.

It is a reproduction etching after Daumier's painting The Thieves and the Donkey, acquired in 1893 for the Musée du Luxembourg and which entered the Louvre in 1903, before finally being deposited in the Musée d'Orsay. According to G. Grignard, the first state dates from 1907. In 1922, on the initiative of Jean Borderel, the plate was used to illustrate a menu for the Friends of the Books: the dinner was held on 6 June at the Larue restaurant. The menu, which was rather sober, included a Madrilenian consommé, blanc de soudac Mireille, poulet en cocotte Pontoise and savarin Montmorency.the plate was finally reworked and published by H. Petiet and J. Alexis in 1925.
