On the left, a series of passages leads the eye to an illuminated circus arena. Several characters, waiting their turn, populate this backstage. On the right, a group of three clowns with their instruments, the Fratellinis.

Plate edited by F. Grégoire. Probably the circus described by G. Geffroy (Geneva Exhibition, 1923, Introduction): A view of the circus shows the gymnast hanging by his teeth in a visible ascent, behind a group of clowns, dwarfs, trained dogs, and dancers, among whom is a delightful little girl, dreaming without seeing anything, trying to read the uncertain future through the tumult and glitter of the present.
