The model is sitting at a desk, slightly thrown back in an armchair. He is wearing a jacket with a wide collar and tie, with a thin beard. He is looking intently to the right. The desk is covered with books.
2nd state, 172 mm × 149 mm.

The modelling is worked on the right side of the face. The wick is drawn higher on the forehead, and the forehead wrinkles have deepened. The design of the seat back is now interrupted at the height of the head.

The 1st state proof of the BPL is retouched with a pencil for a proof of the face modelling, on the right side of the model, in particular on the beard and the temple.
