It is a portrait of a man with a prominent nose, a high forehead and a full beard, seen from the front.
2nd state, 103 mm × 87 mm.
Printed at 30 impressions.

With some additional shadow work especially on the upper right eyelid.

The background is treated in aquatint, a process commonly used by Brouet around this time to produce tinted effects, for example in his nudes. Also called Portrait of the Man with a Broken Nose, the plate is quite rare. It is strictly contemporary with the Portrait of Grignard (Ba 401).
