In the second state, one proof was printed (annotated 2nd state, BPL), then an imperceptible softening of the shadows by sanding was carried out and four proofs printed (annotated 3rd state). The final state was printed with one trial proof, ten artist's proofs on japon mince, fifteen on japon impérial and sixty on hollande by Delâtre for Boutitie.
