A long procession of civilians through the countryside. The actors of this exodus pull carts or are perched on ox carts.
2nd state, 438 mm × 111 mm.
Printed at 50 impressions, 14 state proofs and 6 artist proofs.

With many additional shadows especially in the lower part of the handcart and on the man pulling it as well as on the bundles in the central group.

The second state was printed with 3 trial proofs by Trowbridge on Japon fort, 6 by Delātre on Arches, and 2 more on hollande paper, 3 on japon mince, and finally 6 artist's proofs on japon mince, 20 proofs on japon mince paper (1 to 20) and30 proofs on Arches paper (21 to 50). The plate belonged to the F. H. Bresler Gallery, Milwaukee.
