Courtyard in Sartrouville
etching (1913)
The courtyard, made up of stone buildings, is in the foreground. On the left is a woman sitting with her back to two children. In the background, through a rectangular archway cluttered with a basket, we see a street with a merchant with a basket. On the right, in the corner, a wooden door.
2nd state, 168 mm × 200 mm.
Printed at 75 impressions and a few state proofs.
Boutitie 17, BPL 7.The additional work enhances the shadows on the back of the seated woman's apron, producing a strong contrast with the lighter sleeves. The shadow level under the walkway is now 2 mm above the girl's head.
